Illinois to Oregon.

Well, hello there. It's been a while, hasn't it? Mark and I made it to Oregon and are settling in nicely. I plan on writing a post with my thoughts on moving and how we're adjusting to Portland, but until I gather my thoughts, I wanted to share the video I put together of our moving process and the road trip we took across the country. I'm happy with the way it came out, and I'm sure I'll be glad to have this to look back on in the future! More to come soon from our adventures in Oregon.

    1. Thank you! A few parts made me teary-eyed when I was editing the footage :) It was definitely an emotional goodbye, but we're so glad to have this new chapter ahead of us.

  3. My husband and I are planning on moving from Central Illinois to Eugene next year! I'm a little nervous, but really excited. Any advice or things we should know about?

    1. Awesome! I have yet to visit Eugene, but I hear it's nice. Are you going to school there? Overall, it's been a pretty easy transition for us. I wrote a more recent post about how we're adjusting if you want to search for that. A few things to note: I literally know nothing about Eugene specifically, but Portland area real estate and rental prices have climbed at one of the fastest rates in the US. Homes are selling within days, for 10-30% over asking price, buyers are paying cash, and small bungalows go for $400k+. The state is really growing in population, and there are obvious growing pains. There's a little bit of an attitude towards those who move from out-of-state. I do find that people in the Northwest aren't quite as outwardly friendly as Midwesterners, so getting to know people is sometimes hard. But it's a beautiful state, with so many outdoorsy activities and nature to see. Winter was super rainy (like rain 95 out of 110 days), but compared to the snow back in IL, it wasn't terrible. Summers are mostly mild with only a few 90-100° days and not humid at all! The food and produce are amazingly good.

As for the move itself, we didn't want to deal with driving a moving truck ourselves, so we used a company called ABF U-Pack, and it was great—they deliver a cube/locker type of thing and we loaded it up ourselves. Then they pick it up and drive it cross-country in a truck. It arrived quicker than we did, and it was cheaper than hiring a moving company.

Good luck, and hope you enjoy Oregon!
